Choosing a Good Acoustic Guitar
This is probably the most important choice you will make when you take an online acoustic guitar lessons. The acoustic guitar should fit you comfortably. Pay attention to the weight and size of the body as there are different sizes available.
Also pay attention to the width of the neck. Some acoustic guitars have very wide necks, like those used for classical guitar. Others will have necks that are narrower and will fit smaller hands better. I would go to a music store and play a few different ones, get a feel for each one and then select one that is comfortable.
Simple Exercises That Anyone Can Do
A lot of acoustic guitar playing involves chords and strumming. These are two skills that will get you going very fast. First, get a book of chords and learn how to read the charts. Practice those fingerings and bridging the fingers over the strings. This helps with hand posture and strength.
To start with, I would suggest that you learn the C major, F major and G major chords. Any song can be translated into these three chords. You will be surprised how many songs use these three chords. Again practice these three chords until you have them memorized.
Make each chord and strum each one four times. Then change to another chord, strumming four times. Then to the last chord and strum four times. Now you have three chords memorized and you have done a really good chord changing exercise. You now have the basic skills to play a simple song.
